The Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons West Yorkshire Golf Tournament

The morning of 5 May 2016 dawned to perfect blue skies, with a warm gentle breeze to herald the 34 Mark Masons of the Province assembled at the Low Laithes Golf Club, near Ossett. They were greeted with coffee and bacon butties on arrival and a course which was in beautiful condition. Unfortunately the very slick greens proved a downfall for some, including the writer of this report.

The day had been organised by W.Bro Graham Bailey in conjunction with W.Bro Alex Steele a member at the Club. The day went without a hitch with a halfway house contributing to the total of over £1,000.00 to be donated to the West Yorkshire Mark Benevolent Fund Festival 2023.

After a few well earned drinks, an excellent two course meal was served, and enjoyed by all, including our Rulers, the Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother James Steggles; the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Richard Boswell Puttrell, and the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Dr. Rod Taylor, all of whom had kindly arrived to support the day and present the prizes.

The Provincial Grand Master rounded of the proceedings by thanking the organisers, and Low Laithes Golf Club, for making such a wonderful wonderful day.

Next year’s Golf will be held on 4 May, again at Low Laithes Golf Club.

Province of West Yorkshire Mark Golf Tournament 2015

The Annual Golf Tournament of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of West Yorkshire took place at Styrrup Hall golf Club on Friday 1 May.

The weather was once again kind to us, sunny and quite calm although it became somewhat colder for the later starters, myself included (but I am a fair weather golfer). Regrettably neither Rory Mcilroy nor Justin Rose was able to attend but our Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Very Worshipful Brother Robert Corfield, acting as Starter, sent us all cheerfully on our way.

When all competitors had returned and restored themselves to their personal comfort, the presentation ceremony took place in the presence of our Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother James Steggles together with the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Richard Boswell Puttrell and the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Dr. Rod Taylor, all have whom assisted in the prize presentations.

The Annual Golf Tournament of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of West Yorkshire took place at Styrrup Hall golf Club on Friday, 2 May.

A goodly number of aspiring ’Bubba Watson’s’ were in attendance and fortunately the weather did not let us down, relatively calm and sunny although a little chilly when the sun was obscured by clouds.  The Starter was once again, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Very worshipful Brother Robert Corfield who despatched all the entrants in  due form after an appropriate photograph.

The afternoon passed without incident although avoiding action had to be taken when W.Bro. Jack Anderson appeared in his personalised ‘buggy’, complete with air conditioning and C.D. player!

Prior to a delightful 3 course meal provided by the Club (many thanks to the owner, W.Bro. Phil Ramsey and his staff), the presentation of the Trophies took place.  This was undertaken by our Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother James Steggles who, together with our Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother John Fred Clough, had welcomed the players on their way home, prior to the 18th Tee.
