Well it was for one particular Englishman aptly named Bro. Nicholas English who attended to be advanced to the honourable Degree of a Mark Master Mason. The Lodge was opened in due form by the Worshipful Master, Worshipful Brother David Holyhead and, after housekeeping matters completed a ballot was taken; this proved favourable and Bro. Nick entered the Lodge under the guidance of the Senior Deacon, W.Bro. Geoff Pilling and the Junior Deacon, Bro. Geoff Simmonite.
W.Bro David then obligated him in style and he proceeded to the ordeal with the Overseers who performed their allotted task with confident, muted reactions, a professional job. The Signs and Secrets were imparted by V.W.Bro. John Morgan, word perfect as far as I could see with Bro. Nick absorbed throughout. The Badge and Jewel were dealt with by the S.W., W.Bro. David Bacon with W.Bro. David taking up the reins again to deliver the Address followed by W.Bro. Roy Bury with an explanation of the Tools. This left the W.M. with the final tasks of delivering the Constitutions and Regulations, Provincial and Lodge By-Laws together with the Warrant. W.Bro.David had led the Team throughout the evening , undertaking much of the ritual himself, no book in sight, with the occasional prompt. Truly leadership by example, of which he can be truly proud, culminating in the Conclusion superbly given with sincere tone and presence.
Next important item of business was the presentation of a Grand Lodge Certificate to Brother Keith Hunter, very capably undertaken by W.Bro. Stuart Smith. The closing formalities followed and all looked forward to a delightful Festive Board and were not disappointed. The main Toast was that to Bro. Nick given by his proposer W.Bro. David. Nick is unusual in Mark Masonry in that he is 48 years of age, twenty years below the average in the Province. He has undertaken several career paths, including environmental management in which he has a degree, culminating in being an Optician in the family Business. He will most certainly make a very creditable Mark Mason. In reply he said that the ceremony was most enjoyable and was looking forward to seeing another advancement in order to take it all in.
Finally, as indicated the Lodge is moving to Thrybergh Golf Club with all the other Lodges in the building, this to take place at the year end. In the meantime a Ceremony of Dedication for the Temple is to take place on Tuesday, 19th November., unsurprisingly a sell out. Look forward to a visit in 2020,
