Simon Says at Britannia Lodge of M.M.M. No. 53

Worshipful Brother Simon Green, having come to the end of his second term in the office of Worshipful Master of the Britannia Lodge said enough is enough, and handed the reins to the Senior Warden, Brother Richard Foster.

This took place at Tapton Hall, Sheffield on Thursday, 5th October 2018 when the Brethren were joined by the Provincial Grand Senior Warden, Worshipful Brother John Marrison and Worshipful Brother John Maxwell, Elected Member of the Charity Committee. Also present was Worshipful Brother Edward Wilkinson, Provincial Grand Junior Warden who is everywhere at the moment, most certainly the last five Lodges that I have visited.

The Installation proved to be a very smooth transition with W Bro. Simon in charge, no ritual books in sight, and other than an occasional prompt, a flawless demonstration of the Ceremony. Congratulations also due to the supporting cast of W.Bro.David Hayes, the working tools, W.Bro.Jack Pygot, address to the Wardens, W.Bro.James Newman, address to the Overseers and  W.Bro.Norman Oakes, address to the Brethren, the whole lead by W.Bro. Simon addressing the newly Installed Worshipful Master, Worshipful Brother Richard Foster.

The remainder of the business efficiently despatched, all adjourned for well earned sustenance, nice to report a number of positive comments upon the catering which I wholeheartedly share, a distinct improvement. As you cannot keep a good man down the Toast to the Province was speedily and correctly proposed by W.Bro.Simon, is there any limits to his talents? W.Bro.John, in his response stressed the importance of visiting, apposite as once again there was a poor turnout of Masters in the Chair and Brethren from the South Yorkshire A.I,M, hopefully this will improve as the year progresses. He then drew attention to some upcoming events, the Christmas Fayre at Greenhead Masonic Hall, Sunday 26th November and, a week later on Sunday the 10th December, the annual Carol Service at Brighouse Central Methodist Church; additionally as many of you are now aware, the Annual Meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge will be held at Bradford grammar School on Saturday, 7th April 2018. W.Bro. John concluded by thanking his Director of Ceremonies for the evening, Worshipful Brother John Grey, his first official duty as Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies, a job well done.

The Toast to the Charities was provided by Worshipful Brother Chris Watson, Lodge Charity Steward who expressed the hope that, given the support for the Festival, that the Cleeves and Whitehead Trust would continue to have the resources that it required to discharge its obligations. This was confirmed by W.Bro. John Maxwell assuring all that the Trust was in good order. He also advised that the Annual Holiday will take place from the 1st to the 8th July 2018 but at a new venue, that being the Inn on the Prom at St Anne’s, a beautiful location. He stressed that we all must remain vigilant for Brethren in need, particularly when they stop attending Lodge, a visit is vital to assure that all is well, and if not that we can assist.

I did enjoy myself, a pity that there were not many more to join me!
