Unusual it was, not in the respect that it was a short form Ceremony and that it was the Senior Warden, Worshipful Brother Michael Brearley, except that he is also the current Worshipful Master of the Aireferry Lodge of M.M.M. No.1769. I cannot recall a Worshipful Master being in post in two different Lodges in the same year. I know of a number who have officiated in two different Lodges but not in the same year.
The first item on the Agenda therefore was the reading of the Dispensation for the Appointment of W.Bro. Brearley granted by the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons. The Lodge was then opened by the Worshipful Master, Worshipful Brother Frank Milner and upon a report the Provincial Senior Warden, Worshipful Brother John Marrison was admitted, this being his first Official appearance at an Installation, accompanied by Worshipful Brother Paul Leach, elected member of the Charity Commmitee. The opening formalities dispatched, attention turned to the main purpose of the gathering and W. Bro. Frank requested Worshipful Brother Mike Nowell to act as Installing Master.
The Installation was then conducted by W.Bro. Michael, in a very sincere manner, assisted by the P.Dep.P.G.M. V.W. Bro. Richard Puttrell, and the Acting D.C. W. Bro. Derek Walsh. Attention then turned to the appointment and Investiture of the officers for the year, sadly a number missing due to holiday commitments; otherwise a smooth progression ensured that all the officers were filled. There was then good news for the Lodge when the I.P.M., W.Bro. Frank proposed his Son, Brother Sean Milner as a joining member, the Milner dynasty continues.
The Festive Board was in line with expectations, 5 courses for £12 with choices, you don’t get that anywhere else. The Toast to the Province was in the experienced hands of Worshipful Brother Frank Lefley who commended the Provincial Officers for their dedication and enthusiasm which W.Bro. John Marrison warmly acknowledged in his response. W.Bro. John is a member of Aire Ferry Lodge No.1769 and knows W.Bro.Brearley very well, a man he described a human dynamo who makes things happen; both Lodges are looking forward to an excellent year. The toast to the Charities was very ably delivered by Worshipful Brother Ian Storey who commended the dedicated team supporting the Cleeves and Whitehead Trust, particularly the Welfare Officers and Lodge Almoners. Worshipful Brother Paul Leach, Elected member of the Charity Executive reminded all that the message is to enjoy all the proceedings of the Festival, not endure, however he did think the Integrity brethren had just got the balance about right.
Another cracking Mark Masonic occasion,
Worshipful Brother Duncan Smith P.G.S.D.
