A most enjoyable repast was willingly dispatched by that assembled Brethren whilst debating numerous issues of International importance, most notably, in one corner the fact that Huddersfield Town Football club are now in the Premier Football League in the World. Sorry, I do not wish to bore my fellow Mark Masons with this topic and that is an end to it, that is until the next time!
The opening formalities concluded, the President, Worshipful Brother Keith Harmer addressed the meeting, welcoming distinguished guests being the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Very Worshipful Brother Richard Boswell Puttrell, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Dr. Rod Taylor and Past Provincial Grand Master, Brian Morris Batty, a total of 38 present. W. Bro. Keith had thoroughly enjoyed his year in Office visiting all the Lodges, at least once, and thanked all the Members for their support and the warmth of their greetings on his travels. Of particular note had been the Sunday Lunch and the Gala Night, held at Harrogate Masonic Hall, both of which had been a success. He was also, quite rightly, proud of the development of the initiative of giving a Letter of Welcome from the Association to each new member together with a copy of the Bylaws and the Association Yearbook. In addition, Letters of congratulation were given to Masters and Wardens at installations reminding them of their duties and the obligation to attend other Lodges in the Association area and the Annual Meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of the Province of West Yorkshire. This has all been passed to the other Associations for them to adopt, if they so chose.
The President then invested his successor wishing him a very happy and successful year in Office, the new Team being;
President, W.Bro. Richard Brown, St Chad Lodge
Senior Vice President, W.Bro. Brian Smart, Ainsty Lodge.
Junior Vice President, W.Bro. David Keith, Castle Lodger
W.Bro. Richard taking the reins, a change of Secretary was required with Worshipful Brother Gerry Barker stepping in the breach and being duly appointed as Secretary; W.Bro. Les Davy was re appointed as Treasurer with W. Bro. Ian Tillett continuing as Assistant Secretary and W.Bro. David Todd continuing as Assistant Treasurer.
The President, W. Bro. Richard then thanked the Brethren, it being a privilege and honour to be President which he would discharge to the best of his abilities. In this regard functions have already been arranged the Annual Luncheon on Sunday 19th November, the Presidents Ball on 16th June 2018 and the next Annual meeting of the Association on Thursday , 19th July 2018, all these events to take place at Castle Grove Masonic Hall. Yearbooks will be made available to all Brethren which will detail all Lodge meetings, and indicate when Association visits will be made where he hopes that Brethren will attend to give their support.
Worshipful Brother Keith Robinson then addressed the meeting with regard to the Mark 250 Club, he having replaced Worshipful Brother John Hendry as Chairman of the Committee and he thanked W. Bro. John for all his efforts over the past years. The 250 Club is in good heart and has provided funds for a number of initiatives, one being the new Provincial Banner. He confirmed that Mark Lodges can become members, something to consider, and that 50% of all proceeds are paid out in prizes. The remaining 50% is now allotted to the Sesquicentennial Celebrations in 2021, thereafter the West Yorkshire Mark Benevolent Fund Festival 2023.
The Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Very Worshipful Brother Richard Boswell Puttrell then addressed the meeting and began by congratulating the President and his newly installed Team; also thanking W. Bro. Keith for all that he had done over the past year and the particular initiatives in welcoming new Mark Master Masons. He emphasised that a key objective of the Associations was that of visiting and in that regard he was delighted to see delegations from both the Huddersfield, Halifax and Bradford associations present. Perhaps we can see all represented at the South Yorkshire AGM on the 6th September at Tapton Hall. Finally he drew attention to two up and coming Fundraising events, that on the 26th September, Integrity Mark Golf day, the success of which has enabled the Lodge to donate £1000 to other Lodges to see them achieve honorifics. If you are a golfer come and join them and swell the ranks, otherwise jut come for the Dinner and enjoy excellent after dinner speakers. Also bear in mind the Second Northern Masonic variety Show on Saturday, 14th April 2018. Tickets will be on sale in early September priced at £20 each, a giveaway, buy and enjoy.
A most enjoyable evening, Smile, be happy and do not forget, Enjoy your Mark Master Masonry.
