I refer to one of our Past Provincial Grand Masters, Right Worshipful Brother James Bennett Truswell, also of course one of the Past Provincial Grand Directors of Ceremonies of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of West Yorkshire.
A first occurred on Saturday 4th February, our R.W.Bro. James Bennett Truswell was installed as Worshipful Master of the Provincial Directors of Ceremonies Lodge No. 1813 at the Masonic hall, Kings Heath, Birmingham.
The Installing Master was Right Worshipful Brother Francis Charles Spencer, Past PGM of Worcestershire, in the presence of Right Worshipful Brother Eric John Rymer, the current PGM of Worcestershire. Some of you may recall R.W.Bro. Eric Rymer as he was the Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies officiating at the Sesquicentenary of Britannia Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 53. As you would expect of the PGDC’s Lodge, it was an excellent ceremony but as I was not there I have had to take their word for it! R.W.Bro. Truswell then took control of the Lodge with his usual efficiency and authority, which rings true. He had great pleasure investing his Officers which included one, Worshipful Brother Richard B Puttrell as Senior Overseer.; you cannot keep a good man down Brethren.
A tradition in the Lodge is for the newly Installed Worshipful Master to address the Brethren. R.W.Bro. Jim said that he did, of course, realise that he was very fortunate to have been Installed as Master of this happy and successful Lodge, some even say prestigious, due not only to the quality of its members, but also to the example set by his predecessors. It was a privilege to have been one of the founders and it is even more of a privilege to now occupy this chair in this his 80th year, well exceeding all his expectations!
Whilst expressing his pride about his West Yorkshire roots, he pointed out that West Yorkshire is different to most other Provinces as we do not have Installed Masters Lodges in the Mark, instead we have four Installed Masters Associations doing similar functions, representing as they do the Lodges based in their own surrounding areas. The Associations bear the names of the major geographically placed great cities and towns, Leeds & District, Sheffield and South Yorkshire, Huddersfield & Halifax and Bradford which is also the place where our Provincial Meetings are held.
He concluded by saying that they would, by now, have gathered that he was passionate about the Province of West Yorkshire and expressed the hope that, in September Brethren would take the opportunity to share that passion with him by attending the next meeting on the 30th September which will be held at Harrogate Masonic Hall. Make a note in your diaries Brethren as he would be delighted to see as many of the Brethren from West Yorkshire as wish to, attending, it is already in my diary.
Four Provincial Directors of ceremonies from our Province were present. Including R.W. Bro. Jim, Past Directors of Ceremonies W. Bro Puttrell current Deputy Provincial Grand Master and Very Worshipful Brother Derek Cope together with the present Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, Worshipful Brother John Vause, also the Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies.
Saturday was a very sunny day for travelling and, by the sounds of it, this radiated through the Lodge rooms in Birmingham, congratulations R.W.Bro. James Bennett Truswell, we are all proud of you.
Worshipful Brother Duncan Smith P.G.S.D.
