Like many of the Mark Mason Brethren of the Province of West Yorkshire, I have enjoyed numerous musical evenings being entertained by Worshipful Brother John Whitworth. His repertoire includes songs from the shows, a night with Neil Diamond and several featuring a particular decades. However, at Pontefract Masonic hall on Saturday, 8th October, he excelled himself with music from the halcyon days of the ‘Sixties’.
Many regard this period as the most memorable period of popular music of the last century and who am I to disagree. From the opening “Can’t Take my Eyes off of You”, to an encore of ‘Sweet Caroline’, this was a night to remember which was repeated at the same venue a week later, both to full houses. He was surrounded by a sea of happy faces, many of whom joined him in singing along and undoubtedly all wended their way home considering that it had been 3 hours , of which John spent 2 ¼ hours singing and was quite clearly shattered at the end, well spent, nay a give way at £14 per head including supper.
Additionally, W.Bro. John, who has raised over £125,000 in his career, presented cheques, totalling £1850, to the West Yorkshire Mark Benevolent Fund Festival. The good news is that he is repeating the process on April 1st and 8th 2017 with songs from the ‘Seventies’, undoubtedly worthy of support. You can be assured that it will be publicised nearer the time but you will need to decide quickly as, I have no doubt, they will both be sell out events.
Very many thanks W. Bro. John, we loved it!!
