The Ladies enjoying their entertainment and the Lodge room being full to capacity, the Worshipful Commander, Worshipful Brother Anthony Clifford Parker, aka ‘Tony’, opened the Lodge and dispensed the usual formalities. This included a ballot for 8 new joining members, 6 of whom (in attendance) were confirmed ,congratulated and received into the Lodge by W. Bro. Tony, also a welcome for representatives of all the Royal Ark Mariner Lodges in the Province, a full house.
This meeting of the Lodge, held at Tapton Hall on Saturday, 1st October also hosts the Annual Provincial Meeting of the Fraternity of Royal Ark Mariners in the Province of West Yorkshire. Accordingly, upon a report, the Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother James Steggles G.M.R.A.C. was admitted, escorted by his team of Provincial Grand lodge Officers, and accepted the sceptre, much to the relief of W. Bro. Tony. The Provincial Officers then took Post and the Annual Meeting was officially opened.
The Provincial Grand Master then made appointments to Provincial Royal Ark Mariner Grand Rank for the following Worshipful Brethren;
R.W.Bro. Steggles then addressed the meeting beginning by advising that the Annual Golf Tournament with our neighbours, the Province of North and East Yorkshire, had resulted in defeat. He had received, as custom dictates, a bottle of Whisky from the victorious Captain, Right Worshipful Brother Robert Clancey, the Provincial Grand Master of the Province of North and East Yorkshire. In a display of supreme optimism however, he had decided to leave it pristine in order to return it to R.W.Bro. Bob next year, this could be an act of folly, could be missing out of a second bottle?
The Grand Assembly of the Fraternity of Royal Ark Mariners is to be held in London on Tuesday, 13th December when a number of our Brethren will receive Royal Ark Mariner Grand Rank, a most enjoyable day out. The Annual Xmas Fayre will once again be held at Greenhead Masonic Hall on Sunday, 27th November, all Brethren welcome together with Friends and Family. Whilst the ‘250 Club’ continues to flourish it remains a concern that to date only 30% of Brethren have actually bought numbers. At the present time the ‘profits’ go to refurbishing Provincial Regalia, the new Banner being dealt with now. When this is complete, the Funds will be available for the 150th Anniversary celebrations of our Province in 2021. . A Provincial Sunday Lunch is also to be held at Greenhead on the 30th October, details on the web site, and the Annual Carol Service is to be held at Brighouse Central Methodist Church on Sunday, 11th of December.
W. Bro. James Steggles, concluded by wishing that Strength and Beauty would continue to guide our footsteps and that the Supreme Commander of the Universe would keep us all, and all those close to us, safe and well.
The remaining business was then back in the hands of the W. Bro. Tony, one item being the Declaration of Worshipful Brother Andrew Jagger as the Commander for the ensuing year. An honour I am sure that he will carry with pride.
Bro. Robert Winterflood then gave a very comprehensive Almoners report one again emphasising that , in view of the numbers involved and the geographic spread, if any Brother knows of someone in need , do not assume that W. Bro. Bob knows, contact him to be sure.
After the meeting was closed, in due form, Brethren adjourned to join the Ladies at the Festive Board. An excellent day enjoyed by all, smile, be happy and enjoy your Royal Ark Mariner Masonry.
