The Annual Golf Tournament of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of West Yorkshire took place at Styrrup Hall golf Club on Friday 1 May.
The weather was once again kind to us, sunny and quite calm although it became somewhat colder for the later starters, myself included (but I am a fair weather golfer). Regrettably neither Rory Mcilroy nor Justin Rose was able to attend but our Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Very Worshipful Brother Robert Corfield, acting as Starter, sent us all cheerfully on our way.
When all competitors had returned and restored themselves to their personal comfort, the presentation ceremony took place in the presence of our Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother James Steggles together with the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Richard Boswell Puttrell and the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Dr. Rod Taylor, all have whom assisted in the prize presentations.
The Trophies were awarded as follows;
Carl Whitehead Trophy for overall winner, Ted Myers, Prince Leopold Mark Lodge
Frank Whitworth Rose Bowl for Past Masters, Alex Steele, St. Chad Mark Lodge
Provincial Grand Master’s Trophy for Veterans, Geoff Wood St. Chad Mark Lodge.
Ryburn Trophy, Best Individual Gross Score, Ian Hughes, Danum Mark Lodge.
John Fox Trophy for nearest the pin, Ian Hughes, Danum Mark Lodge
Longest drive trophy, Phil Ireland, Haywra Mark Lodge
Jack Senior Team Cup, congratulations to St. Chad Lodge of Mark Master Mason’s comprising, Alex Steele, Barry Fothergill and Geoff Wood
R.W.Bro. James Steggles then congratulated and thanked all who had taken part on what had obviously been a most enjoyable and fun day, but was also a Charity day raising funds for our own Cleeves and Whitehead Trust. Also our grateful thanks go to our Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master, V.W.Bro. Robert Corfield, for all the arrangements and his hard work on the day. Finally, the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master thanked the owner Phil Ramsey for allowing us the courtesy of the course and for all the help provided by his staff, including the 3 course meal that was to follow.
An excellent day enjoyed by all and we look forward to meeting again in 2016, in the meantime smile, be happy and enjoy your Mark Masonry.
