Provincial Social Committee Sunday Lunch – October 2014

Following the very successful event which took place earlier in the year at the Consort Suite, South Yorkshire, a further Sunday Lunch has been organised.

This will take place on Sunday, 26 October at Greenhead Masonic Hall, Huddersfield. The Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother James Steggles and his lady, Mrs Joan Steggles would be delighted if as many as possible would join them on this occasion. At the last event, held on the 18 May, over 170 Brethren and their Ladies enjoyed a delightful afternoon, something not to be missed.

The menu will consist of a choice of starter and dessert, Main course either Roast Beef with Yorkshire pudding, or a Salmon alternative, Coffee.

Dress code, Men Jacket and Tie, Ladies, whatever you choose, as breathtaking and gorgeous as ever.

I should emphasise that booking as early as possible may be wise. I am aware from the Annual General meeting of the Huddersfield, Halifax and Districts Installed Masters Association held last May that the President, W.Bro. Clive Edwards and his predecessor, W.Bro Richard Brooke will be exhorting their Members to put on a good attendance to rival their South Yorkshire counterparts. You have been warned.

A booking form can be downloaded here:[wpdm_file id=101]

Reservations should be sent to W.Bro. Andrew Jagger with a cheque made payable to the W.R.Provincial Mark Social Committee.

I Look forward to seeing you there in October, meanwhile smile, be happy, the 2014/2015 Mark Masonic season will soon be upon us.

The Leeds and District Installed Masters Association – Annual Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the Leeds and District Association of Installed Masters took place on Thursday, 17 July at the Ripon Masonic Hall with an excellent attendance particularly with visitors from both the South Yorkshire and Huddersfield, Halifax and Districts Associations.

The Meeting was formally opened by the President, W.Bro. Les Davy. It is important to record that in his address W.Bro. Les spoke of the welcome and the many hours he had enjoyed representing the Leeds Association during his year. That is most certainly true as he covered the vast majority of the Province, well done W.Bro. Les, an example to all. He was ably supported by his Senior and Junior Vice Presidents and other Officers who he thanked, particularly his Secretary W. Bro. K. David Fisher and the Social Committee, W.Bros David Readshaw, Paul Leach and Richard Brown. Further thanks were due to the Treasurer, W. Bro. Bob Winterflood who was now to retire.  He reminded all that the Stewardship of the Annual Meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons, West Yorkshire in 2015 to be held at Bradford, would be the responsibility of the Leeds and District Association and he trusted that all would give their wholehearted support.

President W.Bro. J. Trevor Bolton, Copley Lodge

Senior Vice President, W.Bro. Craig Kidd, Pontefract Lodge

Junior Vice President, W.Bro. Keith Harmer, Haywra Lodge

W.Bro. David Fisher, upon a proposition was duly confirmed as Secretary for another year, with W.Bro.Les Davy to take over as Treasurer

The Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Very Worshipful Brother Robert Corfield then addressed the meeting and firstly gave the apologies of the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master James Steggles who was taking a well earned holiday in Norway. He then paid testimony to the efforts of the Past President, W.Bro. Les and congratulated W.Bro. Trevor on taking up the reins as President of The Leeds and District Association. He emphasised that the role of the Installed Masters Lodge Representatives was now pivotal and they must be given support and encouragement to undertake a very important task.

Finally the President, W.Bro. Trevor gave details of a number of Social events, all to be held at Westbourne House, Otley which he hoped would be well supported.

The four Installed Maters Associations have arranged for Mark Masons a weekend away from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd March 2015 at the Belsfield Hotel Windermere, where we have taken the entire hotel for our use.

We have allocated 15 rooms per District (Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford, and Huddersfield/Halifax) until 1st November 2014 after which any unreserved rooms will be open for any Mark Mason from any District.

The hotel has recently undergone a £10m refurbishment sponsored by Laura Ashley and is in a prime position overlooking the lake.

There will be entertainment on the Saturday night and we are sure you will all have an enjoyable weekend in each others company, we hope to see you there.

Although this is being organised by the Installed Masters Associations, it is open to all Mark Masons.

W.Bro. John Whitworth Concerts

I am sure that I do not have to expand upon the excellent Charitable efforts of W.Bro. John – who has raised over £100,000 in his lifetime, a good deal of it for our own Charity, the Cleeves and Whitehead Trust.

On many of those occasions John was supported by Mary Jordan, his pianist, who sadly passed away last January. W.Bro John is holding a Concert on Saturday 27 September at Pontefract Masonic Hall. This will feature some songs from the Shows, plus a mixture of 70’s 80’s and 90’s numbers which I know will see all present well entertained. On this occasion he will be joined by Angela and, possibly another singer. Supper will be included in the price of £13.50, superb value for an evening out, with profits being donated to a Local Charity with which Mary’s daughter is involved.   NOTE – THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED

Another Concert featuring 60’s, 70’s and 80’s music (which should cover most of us) will be held at Pontefract Masonic hall, on Saturday 8 November.  Again, the price will be £13.50, including supper, and profits will go to our own ‘Cleeves and Whitehead Trust’. Put it in your diaries now.  Further details and booking forms will be distributed during September.

Afterwards 40 of our contingent dined at the Freemasons Arms, sharing the facility with 35 of our friends from the Province of North and East Yorkshire where we enjoyed good food and good company. It is disappointing that we no longer either travel together or dine together being split across numerous eating houses and trains. The Secretariat will endeavour to provide us with a travelling together option next year but the arrangement with North and East, at the Freemasons Arms, is now permanent.
