The Annual Golf Tournament of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of West Yorkshire took place at Styrrup Hall golf Club on Friday, 2 May.
A goodly number of aspiring ’Bubba Watson’s’ were in attendance and fortunately the weather did not let us down, relatively calm and sunny although a little chilly when the sun was obscured by clouds. The Starter was once again, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Very worshipful Brother Robert Corfield who despatched all the entrants in due form after an appropriate photograph.
The afternoon passed without incident although avoiding action had to be taken when W.Bro. Jack Anderson appeared in his personalised ‘buggy’, complete with air conditioning and C.D. player!
Prior to a delightful 3 course meal provided by the Club (many thanks to the owner, W.Bro. Phil Ramsey and his staff), the presentation of the Trophies took place. This was undertaken by our Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother James Steggles who, together with our Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother John Fred Clough, had welcomed the players on their way home, prior to the 18th Tee.
The Trophies were awarded as follows;
Carl Whitehead Trophy for overall winner, Ian Wright, Gothic Mark Lodge
Frank Whitworth Rose Bowl for Past Masters, Alan Pendleton, Old York TI Lodge
Provincial Grand Master’s Trophy for Veterans, Alan Gilby, Gothic Mark Lodge.
Ryburn Trophy, Best Individual Gross Score, Ian Carling, Danum Mark Lodge.
John Fox Trophy for nearest the pin, John Simpson, Integrity Mark Lodge
Longest drive trophy, David Fisher of St Chad’s Mark Lodge. Don’t tell anyone but he’s a bandit!
Jack Senior Team Cup, congratulations to Gothic Lodge of Mark Master Mason’s comprising, Ian Wright, Alan Gilby and Bob Sowden.
R.W.Bro. James Steggles then congratulated all who had taken part on what had obviously been a most enjoyable and fun day, but particularly, to all the Winners.
Our grateful thanks also go to W.Bro. Alan Morson of Dartmouth Lodge of Mark Master Masons who has acted as Golf supremo for some 14 years, and is now stepping down. Thank you very much W.Bro. Alan for all your efforts over many years. He is to be succeeded, for the time being, by our Deputy Provincial Grand Master, V.W.Bro. Robert Corfield, many thanks to V.W.Bro. Bob for stepping into the breach. It is also a delight to report that all this energy and enjoyment raised the princely sum of £824.50 for the Cleeves and Whitehead Trust.
An excellent day enjoyed by all and we look forward to meeting again in 2015.
Smile, be happy and enjoy your Mark Masonry.
