An Installation to remember for the Rothman Family

Monday, 28 of April at Tapton Hall, Sheffield witnessed a very moving ceremony of Installation when Worshipful Brother L. B. Rothman P.Prov.G.S.W., W.Bro, ‘Dad’, saw his Son, the Senior Warden, Brother Mark Rothman Prov.G.Organist  installed as Worshipful Master for the ensuing year.

The Lodge was opened in due form by the Worshipful Master, Worshipful Brother Peter Riggall when, after the usual formalities and upon a report, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Very Worshipful Brother Robert Corfield was admitted, accompanied by Worshipful Brother Ian Yates, Elected Member of the Charity Executive.  At this point the Brethren who had received first appointment or promotion at Provincial Grand Lodge were identified and were saluted by the assembled Brethren, a lovely touch and one that might well be copied!  The Master Elect was then presented by his Father, W. Bro. Leon, being unsurprisingly a little emotional and very proud – and so he should be. The Worshipful Master, W.Bro. Peter then installed his successor in excellent form and his team of officers can also be proud of the roles that they performed in the ceremony.  W. Bro. Peter completed the installation by undertaking the Address to the newly Installed Worshipful Master himself, well done.

When investing his Officers, W.Bro. Mark had to invest his Father as Treasurer which he did by telling the Brethren that their Funds were in good hands, to his personal knowledge over 29 years his Father was one of the tightest people he knew!, much laughter.  To the surprise of many, myself included, V.W.Bro. Edward Patnick was invested as the Tyler; he tells me that he is looking forward to a quieter life, probably preparing Orations!  The atmosphere in the Lodge was electric, what a superb Mark Masonic evening, rounded off by propositions for three candidates, a full house as they have four meetings.

The Festive Board was the usual high standard we have come expect at Tapton, the Toast to the Province eloquently delivered by W.Bro. Roy Edwards.  In his response, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, V.W.Bro. Robert Corfield thanked all who had attended the Provincial Grand Lodge meeting at Bradford. Over 260 Brethren sat down to lunch, some having to evacuate when a table collapsed but no damage done.  He also emphasised that all who intended to attend the Grand lodge Investiture meeting in London should ensure that they advise the Secretariat if they wished to dine at the Freemasons Arms.  Brethren we are very fortunate to have this facility, it ensures that we can all be join those from our Province who have received preferment but ‘if we do not use it, we will lose it’.

W.Bro. Ian Yates reminded all that the Trustees are still concerned that we are not identifying all our Brethren in need, this has been a concern for some time and he asked that if a Brother does not come to Lodge , do not rely on a telephone call but ensure that someone visits. If everything is in order, then at least we have fulfilled our obligation as Mark Master Masons.

The new Worshipful Master, W.Bro. Mark Rothman, Provincial Grand Organist, who had been understandably tied up for the majority of the meeting, nevertheless took to the keyboard to close the festivities with “Happy have we Met”

Another Mark occasion to treasure, smile, be happy and most of all enjoy your Mark Masonry.
