The Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro James Bennett Truswell, together with 8 Provincial Grand Officers of the year, joined the Master and Brethren of Brighouse Mark Lodge No. 753 on Monday 9 January 2012 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of W. Bro. John Whitehead PGSD.
This proved to be an extremely enjoyable occasion in true Mark fashion. The PGM reminisced on the events of 50 years ago in general and a particular Advancement ceremony on 8 January 1962 and went on to acknowledge the tremendous work which John had undertaken for both Brighouse Mark Lodge No. 753 and Hipperholme Lodge of RAM No. 715 and his many achievements over the 50 years.
He referred to the Mark Masonic career of W. Bro. Whitehead who was Master of the Lodge in 1970 – and once again in 2001 – and who had held Office in the lodge for almost all of his 50 years – including two long periods as Director of Ceremonies extending over a period of 12 years. During his membership, he had rarely missed a Regular meeting (or indeed a Practice until very recently) and is the acknowledged ‘Father of the Lodge’.
Before presenting the Certificates – one from Mark Grand Lodge and one from the Province – R.W.Bro. Truswell called upon W. Bro. Alan Oldfield, the Provincial Grand Secretary, to read the contents of the Jubilee Certificate from Grand Lodge and then requested R.W. Bro. Brian M. Batty, Past PGM, to make the presentation to John as he felt that very appropriate as W. Bro. Whitehead had been Master in 1970 when R.W.Bro. Batty had received his Grand Lodge Certificate shortly after becoming a Mark Mason. The PGM then called upon W.Bro. Ian Booth, Deputy Provincial Grand Secretary, to read out the Provincial Jubilee Certificate which he then presented to W.Bro. Whitehead and expressed the wish that he had many more years to continue to enjoy his Mark Masonry and the fellowship and friendship of all members of the Province.
