£5,000 Charitable Donation from Worth Lodge of MMM No. 727

The newly renamed Sight Airedale (formerly the Keighley and District Association for the Blind), would like to express its heartfelt thanks to the Worth Lodge of Mark Master Masons no. 727 in Keighley for their generous donation, via the Cleeves and Whitehead Trust, of £5,000.00 in January 2012.

This gift will be used to help Sight Airedale to continue to support its local membership of 534 sight impaired members, which currently comprises 167 in the Skipton area, 275 in the Keighley area, 60 in the Bingley area and 32 in the Ilkley area.

Mr. Kevin J. Baldwin, Chief Executive of Sight Airedale is seen on the right receiving the cheque from Worshipful Brother Trevor Bainbridge, the Worshipful Master of Worth Lodge, accompanied by Worshipful Brother Terry Dudley, a Trustee of the Mark Master Mason’s charity, the Cleeves and Whitehead Trust.

A grateful Mr. Baldwin reported that Sight Airedale would use the funds towards much needed roof repairs, renewal of necessary kitchen equipment, and the provision of replacement computer equipment.

Old York TI Burn’s Supper

Old York Lodge of M.M.M. Time Immemorial celebrated the anniversary of Robbie Burns 253rd birthday in style with over 40 Mark Masons attending the ceremony and the after proceedings which was of course a Burns Night Supper.

The Lodge was honoured with a visit from The President of the Bradford & District Installed Masters’ Association W. Bro. Terry Dudley and the President of Huddersfield, Halifax & Districts Installed Masters’ Association W. Bro. Graham Pearce.

The Haggis was piped in by W. Bro. Alan J Harrison of Fearnley Mark Lodge who went on to address the Haggis in his usual inimitable manner.

The friendly conversation around the festive board proved that the evening had been a success.

The Brethren departed with thoughts of “Auld Lang Syne” as a farewell on this occasion.

SYAIM visit to Integrity Mark Lodge 23rd February 2012

Integrity Mark Lodge 110 hosted a SYAIM Association visit on Thursday 23rd February. It was attended by The President, W Bro. Dougie Garner shown here with W Bro. Alan French at the Festive Board, and was accompanied by the Senior Vice President W Bro Michael Minns, the Junior Vice President W Bro David Spivey and the association Secretary W Bro. Mike Nowell and numerous members of the Association.

The Worshipful Master with members of his Lodge gave an explanation of the Tracing Board which included items of individual research which was both interesting and informative.

The visit concluded with an excellent Festive Board enjoyed by all.

Bronte Mark bids bon voyage to Cliff!

Monday 16th January 2012 saw Bronte Lodge of MMM No. 535 bid a fond farewell to W. Bro. Cliff Houston P.Prov.G.M.O., his last meeting before emigrating to Australia. The Lodge invited the Master of his Craft Lodge W. Bro. Peter Thornton, Lodge of the Three Graces No. 408 to join W. Bro. Graham A. Cooper, Master of Bronte to make a joint presentation of cut glass crystal decanter’s and tantaliser whilst the Lodge was called off.

Cliff Houston originates from The Wirral and was a Lewis. He joined Corinthian Lodge No. 3805 (no longer in existence) some 44 years ago. He was Worshipful Master in 1983. He also joined a Chapter in Cheshire on the same night as his father.

During Cliff’s work life he was in the Merchant Navy, an engineer at Cammel Laird, Price Chemicals, Shell and Vauxhall. He then went into the licensing trade and took over a Greenhall Whitley Pub called The Greenland Fisheries at Neston, Cheshire. He then came to Keighley in 1981 and took The Three Horses on Fell Lane, Keighley before going to work at Whiteley’s Paper Mill at Pool in Wharfedale. He retired 5 years ago. His wife Chris started fostering, whilst still on The Wirral and she continued doing this when they came to live in Keighley. She has specialised in caring for medically and terminally ill children, those with behavioural problems and those with disabilities. In 37 years of caring, Chris and Cliff have fostered over 100 children and given them the love and affection when they were most vulnerable.

Whilst at Keighley, Cliff joined The Lodge of The three Graces No 408, Brunswick Chapter where he went through the 3 chairs, Bronte Mark Lodge No 535 where he went through the chair in 1982 and Bronte Royal Ark Mariners. He holds Provincial Rank in both Craft and Mark.

He now leaves to go and live in Brisbane where his 3 children David, Ian and Jayne already live with their respective partners and children. Also going with them is their adopted daughter Katie, who has represented Great Britain at weightlifting in the ‘Special Olympics’. She has won several medals at Olympics, world , European and British Games.

We wish them well on their new adventure and hope they have a long and happy retirement.

W. Bro. Millward welcomes 91 year old Bro. Gosnay to his Team

The new Commander of Pontefract RAM , W Bro Martin Millward welcomes Ninety one year old Brother Eric Gosnay to his team of officers . After taking up the office of Guardian, Brother Eric is already looking forward to 2016 when he hopes to take up the office of Worshipful Commander of the Lodge.

We all look forward to this event and as we know how good Brother Eric is at learning his ritual.
